Mike Piazza:

Triumph of An

Underdog

The film would probably be an hour in length (for TV) and an hour and one-half for theatrical distribution. It would consist of interviews with Mike, his family, friends, Tommy Lasorda, scouts, teammates and other players,  baseball people involved in his early career, etc. Also, footage from his days growing up (if available), sandlot and school careers, minor leagues, etc.

The film is to be inspirational and motivational and aimed at youngsters. It will focus on how he overcame various obstacles, mental and physical preparation, influences - family, friends, mentors, coaches, etc. We would want youngsters to relate to his struggles so that they could say "I can do it too".

It is anticipated that we can obtain TV-cable-domestic and foreign, VHS and DVD distribution here and abroad and any tie-ins with the Mets' promotions. Also, there could possibly be a book and other ancillary income generated.

The film would probably be shot on Beta SP or digital video and may be transferred to film if festival and theatrical distribution are available. PBS station WLIW has already expressed interest in airing it. (See communication below.)

Hi Nick,

I am working on a documentary about Mike Piazza, New York Mets' catcher. It is tentatively titled "Mike Piazza: Triumph of An Underdog". It is to be included in a series of success stories (The Holland Avenue Boys: A Success Story was first.) Also, there will be one based on the music of the Swing Era.

Would your station be interested in a partnering or other arrangement?

The project is moving along and I would appreciate your response as soon as possible.

Regards,

Howard Fischer
